27/01/2011 Vertex announces new Energy Audit capability

Building services support specialist Vertex Services has announced a new capability in offering Energy Audit Services. This is being offered in association with its Carbon Trust-accredited strategic partner, the energy management consultancy Efficiency Direct Ltd (www.efficiency-direct.co.uk).

In combination, the two businesses can provide a turnkey approach to a client’s energy efficiency initiative including:

  • Utility metering and tenant utility billing
  • Utility procurement
  • Energy benchmarking and data analysis
  • On-site energy surveys, thermal imaging, project implementation and support up to the highest level of capital investment modifications across electrical, mechanical and other building services disciplines.

An energy audit takes in the inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building. Its goal is to reduce the amount of energy input with minimal impact on any outputs and productivity. Typically, an audit will find between 5-10% of savings through the implementation of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).

The Carbon Trust is the UK Government’s main driver in reducing carbon emissions in the UK. Businesses with an annual energy spend between £50-500,000 can apply for a free energy survey through Efficiency Direct Ltd.

Vertex can provide independent audits for organisations not eligible for Carbon Trust support or who require a more detailed audit, which may also include water. All energy audit survey reports include capital cost and payback periods, an analysis of all utility data and a range of graphical and pictorial records.

An audit can typically cover: lighting, heating, ventilation/air conditioning, controls (BMS), building fabric, general small power requirements, hot water generation and manufacturing/process loads. In addition to energy cost savings, key benefits are:

  • increased control over energy consumption
  • improved energy efficiency
  • lower carbon emissions, minimising the impact of environmental legislation.
